A new research project to shape the future of risk modelling
Retail crime is not one risk; it’s a bundle of threats from shoplifting and online fraud to staff abuse and cyber scams.
Today, most retailers sit on the richest ever trove of data. But turning that into crime-busting decisions that improve safety and reduce loss is hard.
So, Professor Emmeline Taylor is leading an industry-wide survey to map how retailers actually build, maintain, and use risk models today.
By taking part, you will help to unearth actionable insights that will help your business benchmark its current approach, identify the gaps and plug them.
The survey takes less than five minutes.
All findings are reported in aggregate only (we ask for a business email only to avoid duplicate responses from the same company).
What’s in it for you?
• A practical maturity risk model you can use. So you can understand what “good” looks like, without guesswork.
• Evidence for investment. If you’re battling for time, budget, data access, or cross-functional support, comparative insights help make the case to leadership.
• Clarity on the basics and a fast path to impact. Understand your peers’ priorities so you can focus on decisions that reduce loss and improve safety.
Who should take part?
This is for loss prevention leaders and practitioners, including those working in asset protection, security, fraud prevention and store operations.
Whether you’re an expert team with multiple risk models or just exploring your first one, your perspective is essential.
If you don’t have a model yet, you’re not alone. Common reasons for this are lack of resources, time and reliable data.
For those unsure of the benefits of risk modelling is, this survey will help surface those barriers and convert them into practical next steps.
If you already have a risk model, you will see how your approach compares, understand where the industry is heading and learn to identify weaknesses before they cause an issue.
What will we publish?
Our full report will draw on the survey results to present the Retail Crime Risk Model Maturity Map. This will highlight patterns and opportunities for retailers to act.
Your participation ensures the findings reflect the real challenges and realities across formats, geographies, and risk profiles.
The survey takes about 5 minutes start to finish. It’s dynamic, so you will only see questions that apply to you. We will disclose no identifying information in the final results.
So what are you waiting for? Are you ready to shape the future of retail security?
