Description

Non Payment at Self Checkouts - What Controls Work?

In our recent ECR research, SCO supervisors thought that walkaways, where customers simply walked off without paying, was a significant a problem, especially when payment is made [or not] with a contactless card. As big as scan avoidance. Contributing to this problem is the random requirement from the banks for their customer to occasionally confirm the payment with their PIN code, by the time the shopper and SCO supervisor realise that the payment will not go through with the PIN code, the shopper has left the store and is often nowhere to be seen. In this session, retailers will share their learnings on the different visual interventions they have introduced on the monitors, audio interventions and then exit gates, where a receipt must be presented for the shopper to leave the SCO corral.
