Description

Food Waste and Markdown Group - AB

In 2019, Greek Retailer AB Vassilopoulos decided to act on the issue of Food Waste and Plastics, with an aim to reduce both by 50% by 2025, five years in advance of the 2030 SDGs. To achieve the 50% target by 2025 on food waste, it was important to put together the resources, knowledge, and expertise of different stakeholders.

One of the AB initiatives involved an 18-month partnership with one of the major Greek Universities, the Harokopio University, to set a baseline and measure food waste across our entire supply chain. The goal was to measure food waste created by the retailers’ own operations, as well as suppliers and the customers. It’s the first time a Greek retailer has aimed to answer the question ‘How much food do we waste across our supply chain?’

In this session, Angelina will share the results from this study and update the group on the interventions being made across the organisation but with a focus on the practical solutions being implemented in the retail supply chain. The group will then discuss the findings, what was new, what was different, what they can take away and finally, give their feedback and ideas back to Angelina

This session is for retailers, CPG's and academics only
