Momentum behind the use of 2d bar codes to carry the expiry date is growing, however, practicalities abound. Will the use of 2D bar codes slow down the scan rate at the checkout? Is there a point in time where 2d bar codes can be scanned by customers smart phones? Is there an appetite and a size of prize for fresh producers and brand owners? These are but three of the open questions that this group can explore together, alongside our partners from GS1 and their 2d Call To Action task force (click for charter)

In this, our third working group session on 2d data bar codes, we will hear first from retailers and producers (click here for video) in the group who can provide an update on their journey, their early wins, and the road ahead. The meeting will open with an overview from the academics and then a presentation from Metro Digital, with a deep dive on the automated dynamic markdown process. The group will then discuss the presentation, identify the learning points and share back their respective updates.
